PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. A standoff between an armed suspect barricaded inside a house on Desmond Street and Charlotte County Sheriff’s deputies ended Wednesday night.
Deputies responded to the scene of an Armed Battery with a Firearm incident around 3:30 p.m. on the 18500 block of Satsuma Avenue.
The suspect fled the scene before deputies arrived to a house on the 1100 block of Desmond St., deputies said. He remained armed inside the home.
Drivers were asked to avoid the area, according to a sheriff’s office advisory message.
The suspect refused to leave the residence after given multiple attempts, deputies said. A SWAT Team was called and entered the home to find a man dead with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The sheriff’s office Major Crime Unit is investigating the incident.
No further information was immediately available.
