Elderly man killed in deadly North Fort Myers crash

NORTH FORT MYERS, Fla. An 88-year-old man was killed in a crash at the intersection of U.S. 41 and Leesure Lane Saturday afternoon, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The crash took place around 2:26 p.m. Henry Cook Sr., of Fort Myers, was heading west on U.S. 41 in his Ford Escape. He was stopped at the intersection while Joaquin Reyes, 40, also of Fort Myers, was driving north on U.S. 41 in the inside lane approaching the Shell Factory, according to the FHP.

Cook then drove into the intersection and into the inside lane directly in front of Reyes’ Dodge Challenger.

Reyes tried to avoid Cook, but to no avail.

Cook was pronounced dead at the scene.
