CAPE CORAL, Fla. Local business are working with the city to comply with a one-day-a-week watering schedule that takes effect Friday. R&R Sprinkler and Landscape employee Carlo Groomes has to adjust sprinkler timers across Cape Coral before the restriction goes into effect. “We have like three service tech crews right now and we have like 70 to 80 we need to get done before Friday,” Groomes said. Some residents are also concerned the low levels of water in the canals could damage their seawalls and cost thousands of dollars to repair, but the owner of Honc Marine Contracting Inc. says there is nothing to worry about. “It’s not much different than just having low tide and high on salt water seawalls,” owner John Honc said. “Rainy season is going to cause more of a problem for your seawall than a drought will, so a drought is really not a bad thing.” Although decreasing water levels in the canals are a big concern, car washes say the water they use has nothing to do with the irrigation systems. “We get that [water] directly from the city, from the potable water, and again we reuse all that through the car wash and the recovery system,” Downtowner Car Wash employee Troy Montpetit said. You can view the watering schedule here.
