Collier fire officials prepare residents for potential wildfires

NORTH NAPLES, Fla. The amount of brush fires in Collier, Lee and Hendry counties have doubled since last year, fire officials said.

There have been 108 fires reported between January and April, compared to only 55 in 2016.

That’s why firefighters from the North Collier and Greater Naples fire districts, as well as Florida Forestry officials, educated residents Wednesday on how to prepare for fire evacuations, which includes having an overnight bag, a place to stay and a plan for pets.

Firefighters want residents to be able to execute this plan in 15 minutes or less.
