School resource deputy vying for Lee Officer of the Year

FORT MYERS, Fla. Jen Gaytan’s job is part sheriff’s deputy and part teacher.

And for that, she could become the next Lee County Officer of the Year when the honor is given at the sold-out Law & Order Ball, sponsored by WINK News, beginning at 6 p.m. Saturday at Germain Arena in Estero.

Gaytan has worked with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office for the past three years as a school resource officer, jumping between five schools and a ton of students.

“I think my biggest goal with these kids is teaching them that it’s ok to trust law enforcement,” Gaytan said.
