A man and a woman were arrested after shooting at a man in Fort Myers early Friday morning.

Officers with the Fort Myers Police Department were on patrol at approximately 2:06 a.m. near Golfview and Cleveland Avenues when they heard gunshots, FMPD said.

The officers immediately searched the area and were flagged down by a man at the intersection of Earl Road and Cleveland Avenue, police said.

He told the officers that he was shot at approximately a block away by man who missed him, police said.

He stated that he and another unknown man had agreed to share a taxi ride and upon arrival the other man refused to pay and left the taxi to join two women and another man nearby.

The victim confronted him about the fare owed and an argument broke out with the women. The women instructed the man, identified as Miguel Angel Carrasquillo Ortiz, 28, to shoot at the victim who fled the scene.

The victim described the man to officers who later found the suspect in the stairwell of an apartment complex on Maravilla Avenue and took him into custody.

Officers also detained the women involved.

The victim positively identified Carrasquillo Ortiz as the shooter and Stephanie Mesa, 33 as the woman who instructed Ortiz to shoot.

Carrasquillo Ortiz and Mesa face charges of aggravated assault with a weapon without intent to kill and were transported to the Lee County Jail.
