A Lehigh Acres woman says a careless driver caused damage to her car and did not stop after hitting her. Deputies said they can’t do anything about it.

Claudia Cruz said she was driving to work on Gunnery Road near 8th Street when a white Ford F-150 truck slammed into the side of her car.

“I want to catch him because it kinda sucks,” Cruz said. “I was just on my way to work, and now I’m paying for a car that might be totaled.”

Cruz wants the driver responsible to pay the price.

“I thought I was hallucinating or something, so I pulled over,” Cruz said. “And I’m like looking at my mirrors like did that really just happen.”

And when Cruz got out, the driver took off.

“I was like what is going on because it took him a second,” Cruz said. “He looked like he stopped for like two seconds but then he started hauling toward 82.”

Cruz was still processing the situation but knew she had to get the driver’s information. However, since she couldn’t leave the scene, a good Samaritan nearby stepped in.

“There was a black Ford, and they were in the U-turn lane, and they were the ones who turned around and got his license plate number,” Cruz said.

Cruz then gave the information to police.

“Basically, they said as long as nobody saw it, no witness saw him, that we couldn’t do anything unless they caught him in the drivers seat,” Cruz said.

Cruz’s family put out a post on Facebook of the damaged car.

They hope the person responsible comes forward and pays for the damage.
