Another former FGCU baseball player is going to the big leagues.

Jake Noll joined the Washington National’s 25-man roster for Opening Day in Major League Baseball Thursday.

“I used to come to the games and watch Jake Noll play, and to see him on the big league roster for the Nationals, it’s awesome” FGCU pitcher Tyler Shuck said.

Noll is the first position player from FGCU to join the MLB. All other FGCU baseball alumni have been pitchers.

Noll ranks in the top 10 for FGCU’s batting average, runs scored and stolen bases.

“I’ve been talking to him, and he was excited just to get on the plane to Washington,” said head coach Dave Tollett of FGCU. “Very proud. But with Jake, we saw it coming. I always thought that he could hit, and that’s the only tool that plays every day in the major league.

Noll joins FGCU alumni Chris Sale with the Boston Red Sox, Jacob Barnes with the Milwaukee Brewers and Richard Bleier with the Baltimore Orioles.

Noll is a 2016 FGCU graduate.
