Officers with the Fort Myers Police Department arrested a man Monday after he was found with a stolen car and an illegal firearm, according to FMPD.

Around 11:50 p.m. Monday, police responded to an alert of a suspicious vehicle with no tag parked on Franklin Street.

The vehicle was occupied by 21-year-old Derick Tracy Simpson in the driver’s seat along with 18-year-old Raiven Marie Newton in the passenger seat and their baby in the rear.

Officers learned that the car had been stolen on Dec. 10 from Evans Avenue in Fort Myers. They instructed Simpson to step out of the car and saw him kick a firearm under the seat.

Simson was placed under arrest and taken to the Lee County Jail for unlawfully carrying a concealed weapon and Grand Theft Auto.

Newton and their baby were taken to a local shelter.

FMPD contacted the registered owner of the car, who arrived and took possession of the vehicle.
