A man shot at Rusty’s Bar and Grill late Friday in North Naples has died and a suspect has been arrested.
The Collier County Sheriff’s Office said Saturday morning that the shooting at the bar on Immokalee Road claimed the life of an unidentified man and left two others injured, including the suspect, Jason Ortiz.
The sheriff’s office said a third man was injured while trying to break up an altercation between the victim and Ortiz.
The victim was taken to NCH North, where he died as a result of his injuries. The sheriff’s office declined to release his name.
Ortiz was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital where he was treated and released into the custody of the Fort Myers Police Department on a warrant.
Arrest records show Ortiz was booked into Lee County Jail shortly after 6:30 a.m. Saturday. He remains in Lee County Jail on a second-degree murder charge. Bail was set at $200,000.
Ryane Large was inside Rusty’s when the shooting happened. “We heard someone say, ‘Get down! He has a gun!’ So that’s when we all just like dropped to the floor.”
“We heard three shots and it was like ‘boom boom boom’ and it was very quick,” she said.
Large says she is lucky she was with an off-duty officer who was able to tell her what to do and jumped in to help those who were hurt. She says the moments after those shots were fired were scary.
“We were down under the table and you see people running, you see people ducking for cover. You’re looking at the person next to you… fear of God in their eyes, just terrified,” Large said.
“We didn’t know if it was going to be like a hostage situation, like we had no idea.”
While she is happy that she made it out alive, she’s heartbroken that one man didn’t.
“It’s just a sad situation overall and I send my love and thoughts to the family of that man and everyone involved. Everyone experienced a traumatic night.”
