A robbery that took place at a gas station in Golden Gate led to a crash in Broward County. But, deputies say the suspects didn’t actually rob the gas station.

Collier County Sheriff’s deputies say that early Friday morning suspects robbed a delivery truck driver who came to drop off supplies at the Sunoco at 11825 Collier Blvd.

They say the suspects then left the scene and led deputies on a car chase down Alligator Alley. The suspects’ car eventually crashed in Broward County.

Both male suspects were taken into custody by the Collier County Sheriff’s Office and may face charges of robbery and grand theft.

Employees who work at Sunoco and other businesses in the area say that it isn’t common for crimes like this to happen here.

Bill Kilgus lives nearby and agrees that it’s uncommon but also says a robbery this close to home is worrisome. “I can’t believe that happened here just like that things are going bad sometimes you have to pay attention to what’s going on around you,” Kilgus said.

“It’s been a good area we’ve lived here for a long time and not much trouble at all,” he said.

Neither the names nor pictures of the suspects have been released yet.

This robbery and the subsequent chase are still under investigation.
