The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office has announced its deputies will wear body cameras by the of the summer.

Patrol vehicles will also be fitted with dash cameras.

According to a blog post, the agency has been trying out two different kinds of cameras and decided to go with Axon 3 body-worn cameras and Axon fleet 2 dash cameras.

“Currently, our team is working diligently on finetuning the details of the contract and drafting the policies and procedures for utilizing these devices,” CCSO said. “Once all the necessary policies are drafted and put into place, our Training Staff will introduce the cameras and all equipment to staff members. With over 290 certified law enforcement deputies and 147 certified detention deputies, the training period will be substantial.”

The sheriff’s office said the cameras will allow the agency to document interactions and obtain evidence during investigations.

The footage will also prove important during the debriefing of critical incidents.

Information on how much the body cameras would cost the agency was not released.
