For some people, COVID-19 and the more than year-long pandemic isn’t real.

For others, the virus is the difference between life and death.

One son or daughter in Collier County is so scared that he or she spray-painted a plea on the side of a truck, asking prayers for their “Dad, John … COVID.”

The photo of the truck was taken along Golden Gate Boulevard and sent to WINK News. We don’t know whose truck it is, but it probably belongs to someone who’d probably like politicos to turn down the noise for a moment and pray for their father.

“That’s one thing I love about this request is there’s no, there are no contingencies,  pray for my dad if you are, pray for my dad if you believe, pray for my dad,” said Mike Warthen, Lee Memorial Hospital chaplain. “It’s just, pray for my dad because he has COVID.”

Warthen helps families dealing with COVID all of the time. He loves the sign on the truck.

“I saw your sign,” he said. “And I’m praying for you and I’m praying for your dad.”

Warthen hopes others will pray too. No matter who or what they believe. No matter who or what you have faith in.

“Whether that’s faith in God, faith in our prayer, or faith in medicine, or faith in our community,” Warthen said. “Even if God chooses not to heal his dad, there is so much value in the community coming together to provide support for one another during these devastating circumstances of life.”

WINK News searched for the son or daughter of “John” to no avail.

The woman who sent WINK News the photos also posted on Facebook and there is proof in the comments section that people are praying.
