Monday would have been actress Betty White’s 100th birthday, and because she loved animals and supported the Humane Society, people are participating in the #BettyWhiteChallenge by donating to humane societies near them.

The Gulf Coast Humane Society hopes to raise money and encourage people to donate, no matter how small or large the amount. For this campaign, it wants to focus on its longer-term shelter animals, which are sometimes harder to place in a forever home.

“If an animal has just a medical issue, or, you know, a limp or something, people tend to shy away,” said Brian Wierima with the Gulf Coast Humane Society. “And Betty White definitely wouldn’t do that, you know, she wouldn’t judge these animals on any of those factors.”
