After a disturbing animal abuse investigation, the Charlotte County Sherriff’s Office arrested a woman.

One of the animal control officers told WINK News that this began when the sheriff’s office asked them to assist with an eviction because there was a dog in the home.

On Monday, the sheriff’s office arrested Morgan Amelia Bright, 29. When deputies went into her home back in July of last year, they found two dogs. The first was in very poor condition and was found in the master bedroom. The second was found dead on the other side of the bed.

Matthew Meredith is an animal control officer for Charlotte County. “The neighbors were saying they only seen her a handful of times. Of course, she said that they wish she was there for more often than that,” said Meredith.

And because we were not able to get a necropsy for Riddick, we, unfortunately, are not 100% sure how long he had been deceased, which would have given us a little more of an indication on how long the animals were actually left alone,” Meredith said.

And after reviewing the case, the State Attorney’s Office brought fives charges of animal abuse against Bright.

The dog named Riddick was found dead. The other, Cash, has found a new home since being rehabilitated.
