Naples City Council had three of seven seats up for grabs. This election was held on Tuesday.

And, this set a record for the number of early votes in a city election. More than 4,000 people were able to vote early, whether by mail or in person.

NAPLES CITY COUNCIL SEATS

Beth Petrunoff won with 23.8% or 3,899 of the votes. Terry Hutchison won the second seat with 23%, or 3,763, of the votes. Ray Christman won the third and final seat with 21.4% or 3,496 of the votes.

Not only will there be two familiar faces back on City Council but a newbie is being added to the mix.

Beth Petrunoff won her first-ever campaign and received the highest number of votes out of the five candidates. She says he still doesn’t believe it. “I’m humbled by it and I’m actually stunned by it I actually want to go home and look at the number,” said Petrunoff.

Incumbent councilman Ray Christman and current Vice Mayor Terry Hutchison were also reelected.

Council says its first priority is to really listen to constituent concerns, such as water issues, traffic and affordable housing.

Hutchison says he knows that feeling all too well from childhood. “My family worried about where we were going to be month to month if rents increased I was moving,” Hutchison said.

These issues are what push people to the ballot box. And this year Naples turned out strong with an almost 40% voter turnout in this election.
