A scandal is taking over a family park in Bonita Springs. Investigators say there’s been a string of complaints after middle-aged men were seen having sex in River Park.

River Park is known as a place to come and sit, relax, and enjoy the outdoors, or a park where you can follow the trails.

George Scukanec, from Bonita Springs, said, “if I brought my wife here or my grandchildren over here, they would not appreciate the fact that that’s going on.”

According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, what is going on in the woods along the boardwalks is men coming to meet other men for sex.

Deputies are patrolling the park now. They found a couple of guys last Thursday. One admitted to what he’d just done with the other.

Scukanec said, “I think we’re in trouble in the world these days when people have to go to the boardwalk for that, right? How about privacy, right?”

The calls and the complaints are apparently piling up because, in addition to patrols, Lee County Sheriff’s deputies set up an observation tower on Wednesday, just like the ones you see at the malls and outlets during the holidays.

“I think things are getting weird. I mean really, come on. It used to be a nice quiet community. What happened, right?” said Scukanec.

The sheriff’s office says the two men who were caught in the park are facing charges of indecent exposure.
