A Fort Myers man was arrested and faces aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charges after the victim uses text-to-911 to alert deputies.

On Wednesday, deputies responded to the area of Gary Drive in east Fort Myers to investigate a disturbance.

The suspect, Rodney Andrew Thurman, was threatening to kill multiple victims in the home with a gun, according to deputies.

On scene, deputies attempted to make contact with Thurman, who then decided to run.

Deputies caught him in the backyard of the home and found a rifle he tried to hide in the bushes.

Detectives determined Thurman is a convicted felon, and arrested him for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, and Possession of Weapon or Ammo by a Convicted Felon.

“Thanks to the text-to-911 system, and the incredible work of our deputies and detectives, we were able to respond quickly and ensure the safety of multiple victims by putting another criminal behind bars,” stated Sheriff Carmine Marceno. “I’m thankful for the support of our County commissioners and grateful that they implemented this system.”
