The Southwest Florida & Lee County Fair kicks off Thursday afternoon, with food, rides, games and animals at the Lee Civic Center for 11 days.

When the gates open at 11831 Bayshore Road at 4 p.m., there will be new food vendors and several new performers throughout the fair’s duration. But plenty of the favorites will be there, too, like the Ferris wheel, the merry-go-round and other rides. Fair organizers say they are looking forward to everyone coming out and having a good time.

“It’s just being able to see the families come out and enjoy themselves,” said Mike Peak, president of the SWFL & Lee County Fair Board. “We really strive to make this a family atmosphere, and seeing that is just a great feeling for us.”

There will not be temperature checks like there were in 2021, but the fair will have hand sanitizing stations around the fairgrounds. But, in addition to the animals and traditional games and rides, there are some new features in 2022, too.

“We have a few new food vendors here,” Peak said. “You know, one specializes in bacon, which is a favorite with everybody. And we have some new talent acts on the ground this year. We change out some of our different acts every two years, so we got a few new ones this year.”

If you get advanced tickets, adults cost $8, children $4. But you can get tickets at the gate, too, where adult tickets are $10 and child tickets are $5.
