WINK News thanks everyone who helped us March to a Million Meals

A big thank you to everyone who donated to our March to a Million Meals campaign to raise money for the Harry Chapin Food Bank.

We exceeded our goal of $400,000 but we want to encourage you to continue donating.

All of us here at WINK News want to take a moment to say thank you.

Thank you for the $400,000 and counting, which is no small feat, to provide one million meals to people in Southwest Florida.

Your generosity does not go unnoticed. And it’s already doing so much good.

All month we’ve told you their stories –  you can read them here.

When we spoke to people in line at one food distribution site, and they said things like:

  • “If it wasn’t for this, I would have a really difficult time.”
  • “My income is a little rough right now.”
  • “All you can do is try to survive basically.”
  • “And there are days that me and my kids wouldn’t have eaten if we didn’t come here.

So many of you so generously responded with $10, $20, whatever you could spare to help the strangers on your television screens.

Robert Pizzalongo donated to our March to a Million Meals campaign. He said, “God put us on the search to do good to our fellow man and that’s the least we can do. And my problem is I wish I can give more I wish I can give more I would right now I can’t.”

Robert is not a man of great means. He takes care of his mother full time who has Alzheimer’s disease.

So right now, he can’t work and lives on his savings.

But like so many of you he put others ahead of himself.

His generosity will feed a family of four for two weeks.

Thank you, Robert, for your selflessness.

Pizzalongo added, “The thing is, we have to help us as a community, people are struggling. Just it’s it breaks my heart. When I see people, homeless people struggling, can’t get a hot meal at lunch, you know, school lunch, it shouldn’t happen in this country. Simple as that.”
