Unsettled weather pattern returns for Friday and the weekend

After a dry, hot, and breezy week of weather, we’ll get some needed relief to the heightened fire danger that we’ve experienced for the past several days this weekend.

A front moving in from the north will stall across the Lake Okeechobee area beginning Friday into Saturday. This will bring the return of higher humidity and needed rain chances.

Friday’s rain chance will mainly be focused north, closer to the front. Areas like Charlotte and Desoto counties will have the highest chances of seeing some isolated rain and storms. Those chances will decrease the farther south you go Friday. Humidity increases, and highs will return to the mid and upper 80s.

A low-pressure system sliding along the stalled front will bring higher chances for rain and storms to the area Saturday evening. In fact, some strong to severe storms will be a possibility Saturday evening, with a Level 1 and Level 2 risk for severe storms in place for Southwest Florida.

The main threats will be damaging winds, lightning, and hail. A non-zero, low-end tornado threat exists as well.

Daily chances for rain and storms will continue for Sunday and into early next week.
