Fort Myers man to serve 18 years in prison for sex crimes against a child

A Fort Myers man was sentenced to serve 18 years in prison on Monday for crimes against a child after pleading guilty.

Gary Fontaine Evans, 43, was adjudicated guilty and sentenced to 15 years in prison on each of two counts of lewd and lascivious battery.

On February 7, 2021, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office responded to a Fort Myers motel in reference to a sex crime. A juvenile, who had been reported missing, was found in a room with Evans.

The investigation found Evans had been giving the child cocaine and having sexual intercourse with her in the motel.

He was also designated a sex offender and sentenced as a prison releasee reoffender.

Evans was also sentenced to 18 years in prison, on each of three counts of promoting a sexual performance by a child. He was sentenced as a Habitual Felony Offender.

Additionally, he was sentenced to five years in prison, on each of three counts, of possession of child pornography.

All counts are to run concurrently. Evans must also pay court costs, the cost of prosecution, and pay a fine to the Rape Crisis Fund.
