Fort Myers Beach fire chief resigns

The Fort Myers Beach Fire Control District Chief Ronald Martin has resigned, according to the department.

Is a release confirming the resignation; the department says Chief Martin submitted a letter of resignation effective Friday, March 17, citing personal reasons. The release does not disclose those reasons.

The Fort Myers Beach Fire Control District thanked Martin for his years of service to the department and wished him the best.

District chief Scott Wirth will serve as acting fire chief until a new one is found.

According to the Fort Myers Beach Fire Control District website, Wirth became a firefighter in 1989 as a volunteer and began his time with Fort Myer Beach in 1991.
