911 calls from a mother protecting her two children during a shooting at an East Naples apartment complex give the victims’ side of the incident.

The sound of gunfire broke out in the middle of the night at the Abaco Bay apartments off Bayshore Drive and sent people into a major panic. A mother, her two kids and two other adults had to dive for cover. The woman was lying on the floor, crying and holding her children as she made the calls.

Victim: “Hi, someone is shooting at my house. Please, hurry. I have two small children. Please, hurry.”

Operator: “Ma’am, just hide somewhere in one of the rooms for me.”

Victims: (to her children) “Stay down…Can you lay down on the floor with Mommy? (to operator) I’m inside holding my children, ducking for cover. Please, hurry.”

Three suspects are in custody: 18-year-old Alexander Jesus Fonseca, 23-year-old Lehigh Acres man Greggory Henderson and 31-year-old Naples man Shawndell Deandre McCann. Deputies say the trio tried to escape in an SUV after the shooting, but they didn’t get far; they crashed 10 minutes south of Abaco Bay.

WINK News spoke to a witness who said they saw one of the suspects put on a ski mask and open fire, aiming at the upstairs apartment.

Victim: “Hurry, hurry, people are shooting, banging on my front door.”

Operator: “What’s the address of the emergency?”

Victim: “4609 Bayshore Drive.”

Operator: “Did they shoot at your door?”

Victim: “I’m not going over there. There’s a lot of shots, and people are screaming.”

Operator: “It’s OK; take a deep breath for me.”

Victim: “They just shot up this house.”

Fonseca and Henderson were arrested immediately. Deputies say they found a firearm on the floorboard on the driver’s side of the vehicle. McCann ran away and hopped a fence into a water treatment plant before he was found hiding on a porch.

The three suspects went before a judge on Wednesday.
