16-year-old killed, another hospitalized in Babcock Ranch crash

A 16-year-old boy was killed and his driver of the same age was flown to the hospital after a Wednesday morning SUV crash in Babcock Ranch.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, one boy was driving an SUV east on Saw Palmetto Parkway around 6:10 a.m., negotiating a curve west of Seedling Terrace in Babcock Ranch. The driver lost control of the SUV, traveled off the roadway, entered the median, collided with several palm trees and overturned.

The driver sustained minor injuries and was transported to Gulf Coast Medical Center. The passenger sustained critical injuries and was also transported, but he was later pronounced dead.

The crash remains under investigation.
