NHC: 2023’s first Atlantic storm occurred in January

The National Hurricane Center retroactively confirmed that the first Atlantic storm of the year occurred in January.

According to NHC, this was a subtropical storm in the Atlantic Basin off the northeast coast. It is the first cyclone of the year, although the next named storm will still be Arlene.
