Motorcyclist killed in fiery crash with pickup truck in Charlotte County

A motorcyclist has been killed in a fiery crash with a pickup truck on U.S. Highway 41 in Charlotte County.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a 45-year-old North Fort Myers man on a motorcycle was traveling south in the right lane of U.S. 41, approaching Tangelo Road around 9:30 p.m., Thursday. A Ram 2500 pickup truck towing a trailer, driven by a 20-year-old man from Westwego, Louisiana, was traveling south in the left lane.

The motorcyclist moved into the left lane and rear-ended the trailer being pulled by the pickup truck. The man was thrown from his motorcycle, and flames engulfed both vehicles.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. The crash remains under investigation.
