A House Republican filed a proposal that would ban local state-run facilities from flying flags representing “a political viewpoint.”

Rep. David Borrero filed the bill for consideration during the 2024 legislative session, beginning on Jan. 9.

The proposal includes flags related to sexual orientation, gender and race.

If passed, local governments, public schools, colleges and universities would be barred from displaying flags deemed political, including LGBTQ+ pride flags.

Equality Florida, an LGBTQ advocacy organization, criticized the bill stating in a post on X that “If conservative lawmakers won’t stop trying to erase us, we won’t stop showing up to oppose them.”

A Senate version of the bill had not been filed as of midday Monday.
