A 13-year-old middle school student has been arrested and charged with making a mass shooting threat on the social media app Snapchat.

A Fort Myers Police School Resource Officer assigned to Paul Laurence Dunbar Middle began the investigation after receiving a tip Wednesday morning.

Authorities detained the student while continuing the investigation.

The student was transported to the Juvenile Assessment Center for booking.

In a statement on Facebook, FMPD said, “These threats of violence, even if intended as a joke, will not be tolerated in our schools.”
