Hurricane season is rapidly approaching as Floridians prep for potential storms with the upcoming Disaster Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday.

Starting June 1, certain disaster preparedness products will be tax-free, removing some of the financial stress of this upcoming hurricane season.

During the two-week holiday, Floridians will not be taxed on items such as flashlights, coolers, tarps, generators, and batteries.

Another sales tax holiday is scheduled for August 24—September 6.

Before the upcoming holiday, Floridians can take action by inventorying the items within their homes.

It is encouraging to have pictures of everything you own and how much each individual item costs in case of damages done by severe weather.

The albeit time-consuming process will help insurance companies when filing claims for the approaching hurricane season.

According to Mark Friedlander with the Insurance Information Institute, you should check with your insurance providers and ensure that your policies are up to date.

Friedlander states that the cost to fix a home after a disaster increased by about 55% from 2019—2022.
