The Cape Coral City Council will discuss and possibly decide upon three options to repair the damaged yacht club pier.

The dilapidated pier was damaged following the events of Hurricane Ian and has since been an eyesore to residents of Cape Coral.

Council members have their choice between three options, which include the following:

  • Repair the damaged piles only.
  • Repair all the existing piles.
  • Remove and replace all the piles.

Of the options available, the council posted that the least expensive option would be to repair the damaged piles; however, locals want the pier to be better fortified for the next big hurricane that may hit the area.

“The functionality of bringing the pier back is ultimately what we believe the community wants. I would say that instead of refurbishing it, just updating it, making sure it’s all up to code so it will last longer,” said Cape Coral resident Shellie Taylor.

The city council is set to meet on Wednesday to discuss the options further.

Once a decision is made, reconstruction is expected to last around six to 10 months.
