State offering foreclosure prevention funds to Cape Coral residents

The State of Florida is providing funds to Cape Coral that may be able to help residents who need help paying their mortgage by applying for foreclosure prevention funds.

According to the City of Cape Coral, the maximum award the state is offering residents is $10,000 per household.

The city told us that this year, they have about $200,000 to give out to those who qualify.

You can only qualify for the foreclosure prevention funds if you are at least one month behind in mortgage payments and the lender has not initiated foreclosure proceedings.

Below is a list of eligible hardships:

  • loss of employment
  • sudden medical expenses
  • divorce or separation
  • unforeseen expenses or home repair bills
  • large increase in the amount of mortgage payment because of terms of adjustable loan
  • escrow payments increase due to an increase in insurance and taxes

There are also income requirements you must meet to be eligible.
