The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash involving a pedestrian and a van in Port Charlotte.
According to FHP, a van driven by a 66-year-old man from Port Charlotte was traveling south on the center of US-41, south of Midway Boulevard, at around 11:27 p.m. on Tuesday.
A 70-year-old man from Port Charlotte was walking on the inside lane of US-41, south of Midway Boulevard and south of the traveling van.
FHP then reported that the van switched to the inside lane to pass the slower-moving traffic.
While shifting lanes, the van struck and killed the 70-year-old man.
The driver was reported to have no injuries.
The crash remains under investigation.
