An officer-involved shooting led to the discovery of a dismembered and mutilated body.

Fort Myers police and detectives responded to the area Sunday, just after 11:30 p.m., near Grand Avenue and Waltman Street in reference to a woman and two children hiding in a carport.

The officers who arrived at the scene spoke to the woman who said that her husband Willy Lumaine was actively killing their roommate.

When officers arrived at the residence on Grand Avenue, they saw an open door and a trail of blood.

FMPD said Lumaine approached a rear window and began to smash it out with a large knife.

According to the homicide report, as officers gave commands to drop the knife, he climbed out, holding a partially bloody torso of an unknown person.

Officers continued to ask Lumaine to stop and even used a Taser to try to stop him, but it had no effect. When Lumaine continued to approach officers and attempt to slash at them, they shot him.

He was given medical attention, but he died on the scene.

Officers found the rest of the roommate’s mutilated and dismembered body inside and outside of the home near a trashcan.

FMPD said the involved officers are on paid administrative leave per the department’s policy.
This investigation remains ongoing.

Police confirmed that there is no threat to the public.

WINK News spoke with several neighbors who heard gunshots and the property owner, who said a person was stabbed and killed.

“The only thing I heard was six gunshots. It was about 11-11:30 p.m.,” said Caesar Martinez, a neighbor.
