Man sentenced to 54 years in prison for killing 4 people in Glades County DUI crash

A Fort Lauderdale man has been sentenced to 54 years in prison for a DUI crash that killed four people in 2023 in Glades County.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a two-vehicle crash occurred in June of 2023 on U.S. 27, Glades County, killing four people.

The at-fault vehicle was traveling the wrong way on U.S. 27, which led to a head-on collision. The crash resulted in four fatalities, one of which was an unborn fetus, and a serious injury.

The driver of the at-fault vehicle, 39-year-old Marco Antonio Lucena Penaloza, had a blood alcohol concentration level of .195. 

Penaloza was also injured and was later medically cleared from Gulf Coast Hospital and placed under arrest by the Traffic Homicide Division of the Florida Highway Patrol.

He was charged with four counts of DUI manslaughter and booked into the Lee County Jail. 

On Thursday, Penaloza was sentenced to 54 years in prison and five years of probation.
