The Town of Fort Myers Beach has been awarded more than $13 million for recovery efforts following Hurricane Ian.

On Tuesday, the town was notified that the applications submitted to the Lee County Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) Infrastructure and Public Facilities Programs have been awarded for a total of $13,018,597.90.

These programs are part of the $1.1 billion in funding awarded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to Lee County to support long‐term recovery efforts following Hurricane Ian.

The funding will go toward two projects: the North (West) Island Water Tower and Facility and the Parks and Recreation Projects.

The Parks and Recreation Projects include the Old San Carlos and Time Square Lighting Projects, Bay Oaks Community Pool Project and Newton Park Beach Facility.

Through these programs, the town said it seeks to improve the entire community in a continued effort toward recovery.
