Clewiston Police: toddler dies from accidental gunshot wound

New information has been released for the 2-year-old Clewiston boy who died from a single gunshot wound last night.

According to the Clewiston Police Department, on Wednesday at approximately 7:30 p.m., officers responded to a home on South Lopez Street about a gunshot.

Officers investigated the area, where they found a 2-year-old boy dead from a single gunshot wound, into the early hours of Thursday.

Clewiston police, the Hendry County Sheriff’s Office and the medical examiner’s office also responded to the scene.

The preliminary investigation determined that the firearm was owned by someone who lived at the home and no external parties were involved in the incident.

Clewiston police have taken possession of the gun, and the investigation continues.
