The Florida Department of Health has issued a red tide health alert for Boca Grande Pass and Cayo Pelau, two miles south of Charlotte Harbor.

The alert comes after a water sample was taken on Monday.

FDOH said that beachgoers should be cautious in and around the area.

Red tide can cause skin irritation, rashes and burning/sore eyes.

Late last month, red tide, in varying concentrations, was found off Collier, Lee and Charlotte counties.
