The Cape Coral Police Department has announced the passing of retired K-9 Officer Todd Salmon.

Officer Salmon served the City of Cape Coral from 1990-2005, most notably in the K-9 Unit.

He and his K-9 partner Axl helped define the “excellence” of CCPD’s K-9 Unit that continues to this day.

Todd and Axl were responsible for countless criminal apprehensions in the ’90s and defined the reputation of the department.

In addition to his assignment as a K-9 handler, Salmon was a renowned firearms trainer.

“Although he was literally a world champion level shooter, his easygoing demeanor helped others improve,” CCPD said on their Facebook.

Upon retirement from CCPD, he went on to serve our country as a contractor, training police officers in Afghanistan.

“Above all, he was a great person and friend to many. The history of the Cape Coral Police Department cannot be written without a chapter on Officer Todd Salmon,” CCPD said.
