3 men involved in home invasion in Cape Coral neighborhood

Three masked men broke into a house, pistol-whipped the owner and took off with cash.

It happened late Tuesday night on Southeast Fifth Place in Cape Coral.

The victim only sustained minor injuries, according to the Cape Coral Police Department.

Cape police swarmed the neighborhood near the Hampton Inn on Southeast 47th Terrace.

They came back on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning to ask if anyone had security footage.

There was also a helicopter flying around.

Neighbors told WINK News they heard at least four Cape Coral cruisers lining the road late Tuesday night.

A neighbor across the street said police were here well after midnight.

We spoke with some neighbors out here who told us this is a scary situation in their neighborhood. One even said they fear retaliation.

“Yeah, it was a little scary finding that news out as to what was going on, but neighbors here are good; usually, it’s a very safe neighborhood,” said Sandra Lapeer, neighbor.

The CCPD public information officer confirmed it was a home invasion.

One business owner across the street, Dionne Lopez, told WINK News that she’s concerned and didn’t even know this happened just feet away.

“It’s hard. It’s tough because if you don’t have the means to get an alarm system. I mean, how do you protect yourself? Do you live in fear every day now?” said Dionne Lopez.

It remains unknown how much cash was taken.

The three suspects ran off afterward. Investigators said they were masked, and they never fired the gun.

The victim is doing okay and only has minor injuries.

The violent crimes unit is investigating.
