CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla.- Dive teams are scouring a Port Charlotte canal looking for evidence. WINK News has confirmed this is connected to a massive police search at a home on New Year’s Day. The canal is located on Gladis Avenue, near Harbor and Midway Boulevards. Authorities say the search is connected to an investigation at a home on Boca Grande Boulevard in Punta Gorda a week ago. Investigators dug for evidence in the backyard of the home for almost 24 hours. Police say a tip from that investigation led them to the house in Port Charlotte, where they conducted a search warrant Tuesday night. The results of that scene led them to search the canal where they have been since about noon. Officials have not given details about what exactly they are looking for. A neighbor tells WINK News that the people who live in the house under investigation have only been there for about a month, and no one really knows anything about them.
