CAPE CORAL, Fla.- New details about a shooting inside a local Target.
Tuesday around 8 p.m., Cape Coral Police responded to the Target located at 1890 NE Pine Island Road. Police tell WINK News a woman was reaching into her purse when her gun went off.
Authorities say the woman then quickly left the store and got into a silver Hyundai.
“I think I had a gun go off in our store. It hit the floor and the customer walked out,” said the store’s security guard in a 911 call.
He says he hit the floor when he heard the shot, walked over to the checkout line where he’d heard the pop and smelled gunpowder.
Then he pulled up the surveillance video.
“As I’m looking at the video, I can see a woman kind of digging in her purse, like putting her receipt in there or something, and the mark on the floor appears. Then as she’s exiting, I see the hole in her purse.”
Authorities say the woman will not be arrested unless Target wants to press charges for property damage to the floor and ceiling tiles inside of the store.
