Call for Action: Resident’s power restored after several hours in the dark

Published: Updated:

LEE COUNTY, Fla. – Sunday’s storm knocked out power for several homes in a neighborhood of Buckingham Road.

FPL got lights back on for the community Sunday night, only for homeowners to wake up without power.

“I heard a loud boom and then everything went dark at the house. TV went off and I knew right then a fuse blew on the pole or a tree had to fall on a line,” said resident Chucky Chaney.

Homeowners say trees are the problem. There are several splices along the power lines where crews have fixed past line breaks, but neighbors want a permanent solution.

FPL says the neighborhood experienced two outages in the last 12 months. One Sunday night and one Monday morning, both caused from Sunday’s storm.

“It was pretty bad, we had pieces of hail on the ground. I wouldn’t get outside to get none of it. The wind was blowing the rain horizontal, the trees was whipping stuff was flying around in the yard,” said Chaney.

FPL tells WINK News they will be trimming trees to deter future power outages.
