LEE COUNTY, Fla.- Two people arrested earlier this month for drugs now face additional charges.

Gorge “Tonka” Vargas, 33, who is still in custody, faces new charges of heroin trafficking, cocaine Trafficking and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.  Kathleen Smith, 22, was arrested and faces additional charges of heroin trafficking and cocaine trafficking.

Deputies served search warrants at two local storage units. Inside authorities found 274 grams of heroin, 454 grams of cocaine, a Zastava Serbia AK47 rifle and a stolen Smith & Wesson .40 caliber pistol.

Detectives also found an additional kilogram of heroin inside of a 2001 Chevy Tahoe registered to Smith and 400 bags of heroin at the residence of Vargas and Smith.

In all, 454 grams of cocaine and 1681 grams of heroin were seized during the investigation with an approximate street value of $200,000.

Vargas and Smith were first arrested after officials concluded a month-long investigation into a local drug ring known for selling large amounts of heroin.

Vargas was identified as the main supplier as the investigation began at a drug house located on the 4900 block of Dean Street.

Officials say he used a tow truck company as a “front” for his heroin distribution business.
