SEBRING, Fla. (AP) – More and more Floridians are living to age 100 and beyond.

The Sebring Highlands Today reports that number of centenarians has grown steadily. The U.S. Census recorded around 32,000 centenarians in 1980 that number more than doubled to about 72,000.

Rachel Wood, 104, is among the approximately 4,000 centenarians living in Florida.  Wood lives in Sebring and credits her longevity to an active life.

The vast majority of people age 100 plus are female – 82.8 percent.

Sebring resident Addison Miller, 102, is among the men who have beaten the odds and reached the 100-year milestone. Miller attributes his long life to luck and to a lack of accidents.
