TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) – Florida Gov. Rick Scott is calling for more regulation of the state’s hospitals including requiring them to disclose more information about prices charged to patients.

Scott on Monday announced proposals that he wants the Florida Legislature to pass during the 2016 session.

The governor wants to require hospitals to post their prices and average payments as well as their annual tax filings on their websites. The tax filings would include information on how much money hospital executives are paid and how much the hospital spends on lobbying.

Scott also said that he wants to make it easier for patients to report suspected price gouging by hospitals and surgical centers to either law enforcement or state regulators.

Scott has been adversarial against hospitals that receive public funds after the federal government announced deep cuts in hospital funding earlier this year. He has also created a commission to examine hospitals’ finances.
