Bell Tower movie theater evacuated for suspicious bag

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The theater at Bell Tower was evacuated Saturday afternoon for a suspicious bag according to the News-Press.

A movie-goer said she was watching the movie “The Intern” when the movie stopped and the screen went black around 1:25 p.m.

“An announcement came over the loud speaker that there was an emergency in the theater and that everyone should exit immediately,” said Ellen who asked we not use her last name.

Several Lee County Sheriff’s deputies and one fire truck responded to the scene. A movie-goers said she saw two deputies leave the theater with two bags. A short time later, deputies cleared the scene and the theater reopened.

“It did make me think, ‘wow you can’t even be safe in a movie theater these days and you know,'” Ellen said.

WINK News reached out to the Regal theaters but had not heard back at the time this story was published. Lee County deputies were not available Sunday afternoon for a comment either.

Movie-goers said the theater gave them a voucher for a free movie.
