Suspect in custody in Sebring bomb investigation, US 27 back open

SEBRING, Fla.- A man is in custody following a bomb investigation that shut down U.S. 27 for hours on Wednesday, said the Highland County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities arrested Anthony Cauley, 30, after first receiving a report of a suspicious person around 8 a.m.

Four explosive devices were found by authorities. One device was found inside an eye center just off the highway. Officials say the other three devices were inside a backpack the suspect dropped on the road as he spotted police and took off.

The sheriff’s office says Cauley has been seen in the area before, and authorities responded to multiple calls about a man with his description this week.

Investigators confirm all the devices have been detonated and disposed of.

The investigation continues as authorities try to determine a motive.
