LIVE OAK, Fla. (AP) – A Florida police sergeant is facing federal charges of possessing child pornography.

According to the criminal complaint, FBI agents searched Kyle Kirby’s home last week, but didn’t find anything. Live Oak Police said they searched Kirby’s patrol car that same day and found 87 thumbnail images of child pornography on a computer inside his patrol car.

U.S. Attorney A. Lee Bentley said Kirby was arrested without incident Wednesday at the Live Oak Police Department.

He faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in federal prison, and a potential life term of supervision. It’s unclear if he has retained an attorney who could comment on the charges.

The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice.
