FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) – A South Florida man was charged with impersonating a police officer after authorities say a real officer rolled up on his traffic stop.

Fort Lauderdale police say 35-year-old Michael Shutov was driving a white van early Saturday morning when he used red and blue lights to pull over a motorist. An arrest report says Shutov told the motorist to drive around a corner, off the main road. The South Florida Sun Sentinel (http://goo.gl/OovbxY ) reports that’s when a real police officer pulled up and parked behind the two other vehicles.

Investigators say a search of Shutov’s van revealed a BB gun pistol, a police-style radio and a flashlight.

Shutov was arrested and charged with impersonating a law enforcement officer and several drug charges. He was being held on $3,100 bail. Jail records didn’t list an attorney.
